What Are Endotoxins and What Does It Do to Your Body?
Endotoxins are a unique combination of sugars and fat that cause inflammation to both your good bacteria in your intestines and cells.
When endotoxins come in contact with your digestive track lining, they irritate cells and cause them to produce inflammatory mediators, like serotonin.
Serotonin can be your friend in small amounts, too much and serotonin can be damaging. As levels of serotonin go up because of irritation from the endotoxins your cells will produce more of these mediators that cause inflammation.
When this happens the inflamamtion spreads out into your blood vessels, cells and organs. This inflammation can lead to many disorders like fatigue, insomina, depression, back and joint pain and fibromyalgia.
Where Do Endotoxins Come From and How Do You Remove Endotoxins from Your Body?
Endotoxins are caused by eating hard-to-digest foods that cause foods to rot in your intestines.
Some of these foods are:
- Raw Vegetables
When this happens your gut needs to heal and there are no magic bullets. The foods you eat are important to the healing process. Here are some foods that support healing:
- Gelatin and Clear Broth
- Mild Fiber: like carrots and bamboo shoots that abosorb endotoxins. Course fiber can make inflammation worse
- Saturated Fats
- Cascara Sagrada: an herb from a South American tree bark, when aged contains emodin, which is an anti-inflammatory that helps healing
- Always choose food first, it is the best option for healing over supplements.
Does your diet contain a high amount of legumes, raw vegetables and/or grains and are you experiencing any of the symptoms described above? If so, I want to hear your thoughts/comments on this topic.
